Happy Bastille Day

I just realized today was Bastille Day for our French friends. I'm a little amazed at myself for knowing that, self-absorbed American that I am. Next thing you know I'll be remembering Guy Fawkes Day. Anyway, here's an appropriate display of French patriotism from Casablanca:

  1. Have I ever mentioned how much I loathed Casablanca? I felt robbed.

  2. You didn't like Casablanca? How is that possible?

  3. It is human nature to loath something that sucks.

  4. Oh, if that's not flame-bait I don't know what is :).

Humphrey Bogard and Ingrid Bergman could have walked onscreen and read the phone book to each other and it would have been compelling, instead they got to act out an amazing story about love and loss and sacrifice and friendship and, of course, the greater good.

  5. Seriously? (And BTW, thanks for so gratifyingly rising to the bait. ;)

To me, although I can't remember much detail now, it seemed fake, overblown...like they were automatons trying to act.

  6. Are you sure we're talking about the same movie?

  7. Yes. Maybe I should give it another chance? But I disliked it so much that it isn't appealing. I also hated Breakfast at Tiffany's, and again that was one that came highly recommended. It was awful!
